The Line. A pictorial survey of the railway and its route.
Station loop point riverside
Although it offers no shelter the Riverside Station is a substantial brick and wood affair with full disabled access. On leaving the station the line passes over a trailing connection iwth the disused avoiding line. This is followed by a long straight section parallel with the River Medway.
rough medway Hedge cutting Strand crossing
Turning inland the line then follows the perimeter of one of the Children's playgrounds. Next and for a short section the railway curves between tall hedges....... .....before suddenly crossing the Strand footpath adjacent to the site of the 1948 original station.
shed doors Loco shed Stock shed
The stock shed which serves as a tunnel when the railway is running. The large steel door supplements a full length shutter designed to provide as much protection as possible against vandalism. Another view of the stock shed - the decoration resulted from a one time incarnation as a Wild West themed railway! Hidden under the leaves is a point leading to a second siding within the shed.
relaid track Par 3 crossing loop points
The pointwork after the siding was relaid - this time using curves instead of straights! After passing through the shed the line continues to follow the pathway until it cuts across at the entrance to the Par 3 Golf Course. After negotiating the crossing the locked facing points lead either to the unused avoiding loop or owards towards the station.
tramway section
The line then continues to curve over the disused loop points before crossing the pathway diagonally and heading back into the station.
