Strand Miniature Railway plan
As can be seen from the plan above the railway forms an irregular oval around the pleasantly landscaped mini golf course andchildrens adventure playground. The length of the single track running line is approximately 400yards, and the gauge (distance between the rails) is 7¼". The track is Mardyke 'Supatrack' on steel sleepers. There are three points, one to the siding in the shed and two for the currently disused loop line.
All trains travel anti-clockwise starting and finishing at our Riverside Station. On leaving the station the line runs alongside the fence surrounding the mini golf and adventure playground before curving left between ornamental bushes. Crossing the first of three level crossings, which we have named the Strand level crossing as it is near the site of the original 1948 Strand Station, the line continues to curve before straightening up to run through the tunnel, (actually the 60ft long locomotive and carriage shed). From here the line runs alongside the wide footpath which gives access to the children's playgrounds. Just before the end of this long straight the train slows to take a sharp left hand curve across the level crossing to the par 3 golf course. The railway then runs between an avenue of trees leading down to the riverside walk. To the left is the disused 'loop line' and then the line curves gently left across the footpath before a short straight run into the station.
